Implementation of the BIM methodology in the Projects and Works Department of the Government of San Sebastián

BIM guide, templates, and BIM elements for the Projects and Works Department

The project has taken into account the specific needs that the city council’s construction section will have

INGECID has implemented the metodología BIM in the Government of San Sebastián’s Projects and Works Department.

Thanks to this process, this city council department is incorporating the BIM (Building Information Modelling) methodology, enabling them to carry out their projects. The end goal is to make the team more efficient and speed up the decision-making process on the works carried out.

INGECID has gone beyond merely implementing the basic BIM principles. It has always taken into account the specific needs of the professionals in the department, starting off with using previous cases as a reference and future project they expect to take on.

To do this, the company has performed a thorough study on the types of projects (past, present, and future) to be carried out. It has also taken into account the profile and number of intervening agents, the usual working methodologies, and file structures, among other parameters.

Materials delivered for developing and applying BIM

Based on the previous information, several different materials were handed over with the heading, “BIM Guide. Government of San Sebastián’s Projects and Works Department”.

The document is supported by references such as the UNE EN ISO 19650 standard, buildingSMART, and BIM Forum, and includes:

Strategies y objetives
Rols y responsabilities
Common Data Environment (CDE)
BIM uses
BIM models
File naming
Deliverables

Furthermore, INGECID has prepared a template for the customised BIM Execution Plan (BEP) for the two main phases that the department will carry out on these types of projects: the drafting phase and the construction phase.

Finally, templates for Autodesk Revit and Autodesk Civil 3D modelling software were delivered.

Restructuring of a boulevard in Loyola

The Government of Donostia-San Sebastián has awarded INGECID with the Loyola boulevard restructuring project. In this project, INGECID took charge of the project’s BIM management, and also prepared the initial BIM model and monitored the works until it achieved the as-built model.

Within the scope of the project, it covered 3D use, clash detection among the projected and existing elements, 4D and 5D models, and prepared infographics and videos. Thanks to the BIM methodology, possible problems were foreseen and there was a BIM/3D model that helped with executing the project. A new boulevard, more than half a kilometre in length, has been a significant improvement to the residents’ quality of life, since it offers green spaces and a public elevator, among other benefits
