INGECID has obtained the first place in the 4th SCALE Users’ Group Workshop Contest organized by the ORNL

9 October 2020

The Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is the largest US multi-program science and technology laboratory, whose mission is to deliver scientific discoveries and technical breakthroughs that will accelerate the development and deployment of solutions in clean energy and global security. Among others, the ORNL are the developers of the package SCALE, a comprehensive modeling and simulation suite for nuclear safety analysis and design.

Every year, the ORNL organizes a SCALE Users’ Group Workshop, a meeting for a fruitful exchange between SCALE users and developers and includes a mix of short presentations, open discussions, and tutorial sessions.

This year, the workshop took place during July 27-29 and allowed experts from different companies and countries to participate in the meeting and contribute with presentations on impactful and innovative applications of SCALE.

This year, in particular, a contest was held to select the best SCALE model among all participating companies, and all Workshop attendants could vote for the best model, including ORNL staff.

INGECID presented a detailed model of the ORANO MATRIX built with MAVRIC, one of the codes of the package SCALE (“SCALE/MAVRIC Model of MATRIX: An Orano TN Americas Product for Spent Fuel Storage”), and was selected as the best model presented by non-ORNL attendees and also as the best model presented by all attendees, including ORNL and non-ORNL participants.

As a result, the ORNL will publish the winning models on its annual calendar.
