Feasibility study of the storage of special waste casks together with spent fuel casks at the ATI of the "Santa María de Garoña" NPP
The estimation of the mass of special waste has been carried out using the RAMA methodology
Radiological impact due to the disposal of wastes that, due to their degree of activation, cannot be stored in the disposal facility for low and intermediate level wastes (El Cabril), for which reason they must be stored in casks in the Individualised Temporary Storage (ATI) along with the spent fuel assembly casks.
The estimation of the mass of special waste was performed using the RAMA methodology and the radiological impact on the ATI was carried out using the MAVRIC module of the SCALE package. The possibility of storing the special wastes in both metallic and concrete containers has been analysed and the results have been compared with the radiological limits established by the Nuclear Safety Council by means of instruction IS-29.
