Complete NPPIM model of the Santa María de Garoña nuclear power plant.

The objective of the project has been to develop a complete NPPIM (Nuclear Power Plant Information Modelling, i.e. BIM applied to nuclear power plants) model of the Santa María de Garoña nuclear power plant, in order to support all the activities involved in the decommissioning process.

For this purpose, the plant buildings and the different piping systems included in each of the buildings have been modeled. Each of the elements of the model has been provided with a high level of information that has been useful in each phase of the decommissioning preparation process, starting with the physical inventory and radiological characterization.

The use of the model allows, among other things, the identification of possible interferences between elements, the volumes and characteristics of each material, the access routes to the different areas and the availability of storage spaces in each phase of the project. This allows optimized planning of dismantling activities, as well as efficient management of waste, resources and storage space, cost tracking and traceability of components.
