4D NUCLEAR POWER PLANT MAINTENANCE

4D simulation of valve maintenance processes at the Vandellós II Nuclear Power Plant

The project focuses on the virtualization of maintenance processes. Specifically, the objective is to train the workers in the maintenance tasks of the Main Steam Isolate Valves of the Vandellós II Nuclear Power Plant, which, due to their complexity, dimensions and radioactivity, make the maintenance operations inside the plant a high risk for the workers.

It is possible to mitigate this risk and carry out the works more efficiently by means of adequate training. To this end, the scope of the project includes the following phases:

– 3D modeling of steam containment valves with all their elements (bolts, joints, studs, springs, graphite seals, etc.) and their respective coding.

– Updating of valve maintenance documentation including manuals and checklists of the steps to be followed during maintenance work.

– Development of virtualization tools and process simulation for the training of workers in virtual reality environments.

– Development of an online course to train workers and evaluate their apprenticeship.
