The plan, which has been approved by the Nuclear Safety Council (CSN) and recently published in the Official Gazette of Cantabria (BOC), allows Cantabria to join the list of autonomous communities that have a special radiological emergency response plan. Its main objective is to provide the organization, procedures, means, and resources necessary to protect the population against radiological risks that may affect them in the event of a radiological emergency.
The RADIOCANT is designed to address all radiological emergency situations that may arise in Cantabria’s territorial area, which could pose a risk to people, property, and the environment.
The work outlined in this approved Special Plan will be tested in a simulation exercise for a serious accident involving a radioactive source, coordinated by the Government of Cantabria and the CSN, together with Valdecilla Hospital (HUMV), with participation from professionals from various services.
We are proud that the Civil Protection service has entrusted INGECID with the development of this plan. This achievement is the result of the knowledge acquired over the years in radiological protection and our experience working in nuclear and radioactive facilities, which has allowed us to compile and develop the actions to follow, ensuring the proper execution of the response to this type of emergency.
